How the Legal Talent Landscape is Evolving in the AI Era
After returning from a whirlwind couple of days at LegalOps.com’s RLLB annual in Vegas, I caught up with many familiar faces and colleagues across the country while meeting others with whom I had only connected online. I touched on some themes from that event in my recap post but this trip yielded another striking observation: people are moving! In the span of those two days I learned that at least six colleagues are (or will be) moving into new roles with different organizations soon and nearly another half dozen colleagues interested in opportunities we have at ZentLaw. The level of mobility in this market right now is incredible and it shows just how much the legal talent landscape has changed.
“With high investment comes high expectations,” wrote Crunchbase last month, reporting that, in the past two years, VCs have poured more than $7 billion into LegalTech, primarily in startups with an AI focus. Having hit record levels last year, with $4.6 billion invested, so far this year, LegalTech startups have raised more than $2.2 billion. (That number keeps rising, with Harvey just raising $550 million last week.)

Deals in the billions are becoming regular headlines. AI startup Thinking Machines Lab reportedly secured a $2…

How AI FOMO is Fueling VC Competition
When Tim Cook said more than a decade ago that competition makes everyone better, he probably did not imagine how relevant those words would be to the rise of artificial intelligence in venture capital. The Original Copy investment race has created an environment where speed and precision matter more than ever. Similar patterns are also…

The One-Person, Billion-Dollar VC Fund of the Future?
Just as Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, raised the possibility that artificial intelligence could enable the rise of a one-person billion-dollar company, I started to ask myself a related question. Could we eventually see a one-person billion-dollar VC fund? With artificial intelligence reshaping the way investment firms operate, that possibility no longer feels far-fetched. For…
